Default amprobe acd-4

The application that Im using it for is to check the volts and amps output from a welding machine in order to determine heat input. The owner's manual does not give any instruction or guidance in that application. I was told to use the probes on the welding machine terminals. The machine has a digital readout and I was going to check the accuracy of the voltameter and could not get a reading of more than 2volts when an out put of 18v is showing on lthe machine will welding . Help!

To measure voltage, you measure from the electrode tip to the workpiece, but that's often not practical, so you might insert the probe into the electrode cable a good distance away from the electrode holder. You have to be welding to get the voltage measured in that way.

If you're just measuring the open circuit across the terminals, make sure you set the meter to DC if applicable (AC for an AC MMA or TIG welder).
