Arrow How Do You Clean and Care for Wood Floors?

Protecting wood floors isn't difficult, but it's important to understand how different sealers work and the advantages and disadvantages of each. There are two basic types of sealers: penetrating sealers and "top" sealers. Penetrating sealers, as the name implies, soak into the wood and seal from within. When the floor becomes worn you can re-apply penetrating sealers. Top sealers, like lacquer, shellac, and varnish stay on top of the wood and cannot be applied for worn spots without showing.

I bought a house a while ago and in the dining room, we have hardwood flooring. Well it looks like hardwood, but I think it is an engineered hardwood floor because the previous owners had some potted plants and the pots leaked under them and caused some water damage under where the pots used to be. One area is so bad that the top veneer layer is coming up. Is there a simple solution to fixing this? Can I just glue the veneer down again, sand the wood and put some sealer on it? Help!

is it a thin veneer or is it that three ply engineered plank? It's important because you can't fix Pergo, but you can fix and sand an 1/8 in. layer of wood.
