Arrow What Brands Do Republicans and Democrats Like?

YouGov's BrandIndex survey asked the question: "Is your brand a red brand or a blue brand?" and then posted some of the results online. After reviewing their results, at least the published ones, it looks like Republicans and Democrats aren't all that different. Overall, it looked like there were a lot of similarities, like Johnson & Johnson, Craftsman tools, and the Discovery Channel. So if you think only Red or Blue voters like to grab that Craftsman 12V Nextec drill, you're likely stereotyping incorrectly.

Default Tools and Politics

I was recently annoyed and disappointed by Channellock sending me a newsletter that specifically touted them as a republican company against the current administration. There was some name calling and even a bit of un-truth. The letter was actually written by the president of the company. Does this guy not understand that the majority of his customers are tradesmen and common working folks? Not to mention he represents a lot of democratic workers? He might as well print "down with the working man" on each tool. Then he could put out a factory memo saying "thanks for working for me, hopefully I can pay you less or otherwise screw you over in the future".

Channellock also spews some republican crap on their website blog (channellock.com/blog/post/2010/06/09/A-message-from-President-and-CEO-William-S-DeArment).

I'm not saying he shouldn't be republican; it makes sense that he is, most tool manufacturer company's corporate CEO's probably are. But should he really be on a soapbox about it?

I like my products to seem non-partisan.

It's his company... unions pull strings all the time and tell their people how to vote (sometimes without their permission). I think private companies are even more fair game to do as they please.

And I don't think equating working folks with democrats is fair. Most Americans work (when they are able) and they vote for both parties.

Free speech means you have the right to be offended.

Didn't mean to say working folks were dems. I am a working guy and I sure don't equate as a democrat. Rather, I meant to say that political affiliations may be too sensitive a topic for one's boss to outwardly express as a view held by an entire company. And while it is HIS company he represents a lot of people; much the same if he sent out memos despising blacks, homosexuals, and blondes. He might be offending those which he is trying to sell to, not to mention those who work for him. A poor marketing move to say the least.

When it comes to my right to vote for whomever I want, I wouldn't listen to a union rep. any more than I'd listen to a CEO... they are all the same anyway, only really concerned about #1
